Assignment Details

Our client, an Indian multinational conglomerate renowned for its operations in infrastructure, is seeking Design & Engineering Lead

The Design & Engineering Lead will be responsible for aligning engineering strategies with business objectives, ensuring cost-optimized project designs, and managing external consultants and EPC vendors. This role requires expertise in solar and wind system design, technology selection, energy yield assessments, power evacuation feasibility, and engineering design reviews. The candidate will also oversee in-house techno-commercial engineering while efficiently outsourcing detailed engineering to EPC partners.

 

Key Responsibilities


1. Engineering Strategy & Alignment with Business Goals

  • Align design and engineering solutions with IPP business objectives for cost-effective and bankable projects.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards, grid codes, and regulatory requirements across multiple states.
  • Evaluate latest technology trends (modules, inverters, wind turbines, storage, hybrid solutions) for cost and performance optimization.

 


2. Solar & Wind System Design and Yield Assessments

  • Manage and review wind & solar energy yield assessments using external consultants (PVsyst, WindPro, WAsP etc.).
  • Ensure optimal site layouts for solar and wind farms, minimizing LCOE and BOS costs.
  • Assess design feasibility for hybrid (Solar+Wind+BESS/PSP) configurations.

 


3. Power Evacuation & Grid Feasibility Studies

  • Conduct and oversee power evacuation feasibility studies using external consultants.
  • Collaborate with transmission planners for CTU/STU connectivity, load flow analysis, and grid interconnection approvals.
  • Work with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with CEA, CERC, and SLDC/RLDC norms.

 


4. Engineering Design Reviews & Vendor Management

  • Lead engineering design reviews for solar, wind, and hybrid projects, ensuring technical accuracy and cost optimization.
  • Manage external consultants, EPCs, and technology vendors, ensuring adherence to technical specifications.
  • Oversee BOP (Balance of Plant) and civil design aspects to optimize land and infrastructure costs.

 


5. Techno-Commercial Engineering & Outsourced Detailed Engineering

  • Manage the outsourcing of detailed engineering to third-party EPC vendors while maintaining control over design integrity and cost optimization.
  • Collaborate closely with the supply chain and procurement teams to ensure value engineering and the selection of high-quality, cost-effective vendors and materials.

 


6. Digital Tools & Performance Optimization

  • Utilize software like PVsyst, WindPro, HOMER, PSS®E, DigSILENT, ETAP for system simulations and feasibility studies.
  • Implement AI/IoT-based predictive analytics for system performance monitoring and optimization.

Skills Required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Renewable Energy Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: 10–15 years in solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy system design and project optimization.
  • Proven experience in energy yield modelling, power evacuation feasibility, and grid integration studies.
  • Strong understanding of FDRE, RTC, and BESS integration in renewable energy systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards (CERC, CEA, SERC), tender requirements (SECI/NTPC/State-level), and grid codes.
  • Vendor & Consultant Management: Experience in managing external consultants, EPC vendors, and technology suppliers.
  • Familiarity with advanced tools like PVsyst, HOMER Pro, WindPro, PSS®E, and ETAP for system simulations.
